You're standing in the kitchen at 9am on a Friday. It’s 35 degrees outside, and you’re looking for an activity that's actually interesting, preferably educational in some way, and ideally won't end in a meltdown in a parking lot.
Turns out Israel has quite a decent museum scene for families, and it's spread across the country, so here’s a solid list to bookmark when you’re not sure where to go:
1. MadaTech, Haifa
Address: 25 Shmaryahu Levin Street, Hadar HaCarmel, Haifa
Best for: Ages 5 and up
Israel's largest science museum, housed in the gorgeous old Technion building in the Hadar neighborhood. MadaTech has over 300 interactive exhibits across physics, chemistry, robotics, space, and technology. Kids can build, experiment, and touch pretty much everything. There's also a planetarium and an outdoor science garden.
2. Bloomfield Science Museum, Jerusalem
Address: 3 Sderot HaMuze'onim (Museum Boulevard), Givat Ram, Jerusalem
Best for: Ages 3 and up
One of Jerusalem's most family-loved attractions, right near the Hebrew University campus. The Bloomfield Science Museum has over 100 interactive exhibits covering science, engineering, and technology, with workshops, 3D film screenings, and live science demonstrations built into the day. Everything is labeled in Hebrew, English, and Arabic, which is a genuine plus if you're still building your Hebrew. 🩷This is one of our favorite museums!
3. Israel Aquarium, Jerusalem
Address: 3 Aharon Shulov Street, Jerusalem (adjacent to the Jerusalem Biblical Zoo)
Best for: Ages 2 and up
Jerusalem's aquarium sits right next to the Biblical Zoo and is a great add-on to a full day out in that area. The exhibits cover marine life from Israel's coastal ecosystems and beyond, with large tanks and interactive displays that younger kids especially love. Entry is by timed slot, so booking in advance is essential.
4. The Israel Children's Museum, Holon
Address: 210 Sderot Yerushalayim, Holon
Best for: Ages 4-5 and up (some programs are from ages 2.5 and up)
This one is different from most museums on this list. The Israel Children's Museum in Holon is entirely immersive and experiential: there are no display cases and no passive looking. Visits are by guided tour only, so advance booking is mandatory (and it’s generally booked weeks ina advance!).
5. The Israel Children's Museum, Holon
Address: 12 Klausner Street, Tel Aviv University Campus
Best for: Ages 4 and up
Israel's national natural history museum has beautifully designed exhibits on Israel's biodiversity, ecosystems, live insects, and animals. 🩷This is one of our favorite museums!
6. Museum of Illusions, Tel Aviv
Address: Tel Aviv Port, Building 26, Yosef Yekutieli 6, Tel Aviv
Best for: Ages 4 and up
The Museum of Illusions is exactly what it sounds like: over 60 visual and educational exhibits featuring optical illusions, holograms, stereograms, and immersive rooms. It's interactive, tactile, and genuinely fun for adults and kids alike. The rooms are designed for photography and the whole visit takes about 60-90 minutes. It’s a fun activity to pair with a walk in Park Hayarkon or a lunch in the Namal.
7. Ramat Gan Safari and Zoo (ספארי רמת גן), Ramat Gan
Address: 1 Tzvi Street, Ramat Gan
Best for: All ages
The Safari section lets you drive through among free-roaming giraffes, zebras, rhinos, and more. You can then park at the Zoo and easily spend the full day at the Zoo!
8. Lunada Children's Museum, Beer Sheva
Address: 25 David HaReuveni Street, Beer Sheva
Best for: Ages 2 and up
Lunada is an interactive children's museum that's one of the most innovative of its kind in Israel. Spread across 4,000 square meters on three floors, it has over 50 exhibits and installations across eight themed knowledge spaces, plus outdoor areas. It's experiential and hands-on throughout, which means kids stay engaged much longer than in a traditional museum.
9. Tel Aviv Museum of Art (TAMA), Tel Aviv
Address: 27 Shaul HaMelech Boulevard, Tel Aviv
Best for: Ages 7 and up
The Tel Aviv Museum of Art is one of the leading art museums in the Middle East, with an impressive permanent collection spanning Impressionism, modern art, Israeli art, and photography. There are family-oriented programs, workshops, and guided tours available on weekends, so it’s worth checking what’s going on before visiting!
